Well well well... Long time no see. Or something like that.
This is Monkey Bastard himself speaking and it's good to see y'all again. Been busy and exhausted for about a month - constant studies and non-stop work with four hours sleep per night finally caught up with me. But now I'm back and ready lay another mix on ye.
Track #1: A song from
American Recordings,
Johnny Cash's first album with Rick Rubin which marked his "return". This was written for Cash by Glenn Danzig who later recorded his own (much worse) version.
Track #2: Great slab of classic pop/rock from 1969.
Track #3: Edison Lighthouse's only hit, from 1970.
Track #4: Swedish glam rock heroes, who coincidentally ripped off
Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) in their song
The Worrying Kind, which they wrote for the
Eurovision Song Contest 2007. This is from
The Ark's latest album, 2007's
Prayer For The Weekend.
Track #5: Don't know much about this Irish dude. He died in 2002 at the age of 57 and this song is from 1970, that's about as much info as I can give you.
Track #6: From Buckley's 1998 release
Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk.
Track #7: From the 1972 classic
I'm Still In Love With You.
Track #8: Great, slighty weird song by a great, slighty weird Dutch band, from 2001's
Outside The Simian Flock. The outro might just be favorite piece of recording of all time.
Track #9: Another groovy sem-forgotten 1970 track that will rock your world.
Track #10: The title track from
Captain Beefheart's 1982 album. An album which contains my all time favorite song title:
81' Poop Hatch.
Track #11: You want old school German psychedelic prog rock? You fucking got it. From 1970's killer album
Yeti.
Track #12: These guys teamed up with Christian Aguilera for the Lennon cover album
Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur, but don't hold that against them. From their amazing 2003 album
Hex.
Track #13: Nothing good as ever come from Finland. Except this band. From 2005's
One Night at Sirdies.
Track #14: A very talented singer/songwriter who deserves more success. From 2007's
Miracle Of Five.
Track #15: If it was good enough to round off
Springsteen's 1975 meisterwerk
Born To Run, it's good enough round off my silly mix.
Alrighty, that oughta keep you busy over the weekend. Hopefully you made a new discovery or two. The next mix will be posted on Monday (I promise).
